How to optimize breast MRI protocol?
This study examined the efficacy of ultrafast MRI in distinguishing between malignant and benign tumors. The researchers found that BI-RADS analysis using an MRI protocol with two additional features, early enhancement on ultrafast sequence and an ADC (apparent diffusion coefficient) value of ≥ 1.5 × 10−3 mm2/s was more accurate in diagnosing breast cancer compared to standard MRI protocol.
Overall, it was found that the ultrafast MRI is an accurate and efficient means of diagnosing breast cancer and using ultrafast MRI may prevent patients from undergoing an unnecessary biopsy. A shortened MRI allows for a quicker examination and reading time for MRI, therefore saving precious time for a cancer diagnosis and treatment
